A (soon to be) Great Open Source Solar Investing Platform
09 Jun 2020I complained before that sustainable finance is too much hard work. I think Yale may be building something that could fix it.
It’s an Open Source platform that anyone could use to build a decentralised community infrastructure or climate finance platform on top of. Hence the name OpenX.
It seems similar to Wunder Captial or Sun Exchange (Blockchain based). But its Open Source! Anyone who dislikes the current solar financing platforms would have a way to compete fairly quickly. Or to take the X of OpenX seriously and try another market.
The repo is active and has been active for a long time. The code already appears quite far along. The documentation is solid. The ambitions of the project look great, if this Open Source project was running and available a great sustainability platforms could exist more easily. You could argue that makes the business an uninteresting race to the bottom. But from the worlds point of view it seems a good race to run.
The platform is currently built on the Stellar blockchain. They have a thorough analysis of the pros and cons of many blockchains and have a spreadsheet that seems to show Ethereum as the winner, but that doesn’t mean they plan to switch techonologies but intend to add compatibility with more blockchains in future. See here.
One very major problem is that the Bus Factor of the project looks like it’s 1. Maybe me? Maybe you? Should make that Bus Factor 2.
